Sticks and Stripes

Both “Sticks and Stripes” quilts were inspired by two images from a trip to a South Carolina beach – the flashy stripes of corn snakes and wooden boardwalks. My intent was to capture the vibrant variation of color in the snakes’ stripes and the jaunty angles of the sturdy boardwalks that protect the sand dunes. The simplicity and repetition of those two linear elements captured my imagination, and I felt compelled to find a way to join them together!

“Sticks and Stripes II” has a more subtle palette and the variations present an image of an improvisational sampler.
